Once a Pun a Time

Once a pun a thyme. The time asked itself, 'why am I here'?

Am I here simply to add a little seasoning?

Or, am I here to measure the distance between the beginning of one life, and the beginning of another.

In the beginning...

There was very little need for thyme. There had not yet been invented and wondrous culinary adventures. And the whoever or whatever in charge of the creation of the universe had not yet gotten started. So...there was need for time...to measure how long it takes from one thing to another thing.

But after a while, things began to happen. At first things were happening at a rather modest and comfortable pace and thyme had plenty of time to savor the flavor of the seasons.

But after another while, more things began to happen and it was getting to be quite a bit of a challenge for time to do all the necessary measurements and so forth.

But things continued to happen and after a while things were happening faster and faster and there was hardly any time to savor the flavor of the seasons.

As a matter of fact, some would say there was no time for good taste of any sort.

But things kept happening faster and faster and suddenly time caught up with itself.

And in that instant, time began to move very slowly.

And time had the time to savor such questions as 'why am I here'?
