Folksy Bluegrass

This music is pretty much where I got started. The first I remember actually interacting with real live musicians was hanging around the older guys who used to play in the parking lot in front of the little shopping center in the nearby town of McLean, VA. It was a fairly small town then. It was there that I first introduced to the music of the Carter Family.

I’m not sure whether these guys had learned from records, but I actually learned my first few tunes from them via my own little version of the oral tradition. That is I would watch what they played and sometimes petition them to show me things and then go home and try to reconstruct as best I could remember.
